DESCRIPTION:Ameriško-slovenska izobraževalna fundacija (ASEF) v okviru ASEF Speaker Series organizira novo poljudno-znanstveno predavanje. Tokrat se nam bo pridružil dr. Matjaž Humar s predavanjem: “Živi laserji”. \nPredavanje bo potekalo v hibridni izvedbi\, in sicer v Prešernovi dvorani na SAZU\, Novi trg 4\, 1000 Ljubljana in preko Zoom povezave. Število udeležencev v živo je omejeno. Prosimo\, da se na predavanje prijavite do 17. novembra do 18. ure. Ob prijavi izberite vrsto udeležbe (v živo ali online). Vsi prijavljeni online udeleženci bodo pred dogodkom prejeli povezavo Zoom na svoj elektronski naslov. \nTEMA PREDAVANJA \nPredstavljajte si mikroskopske laserje\, ki so v celoti sestavljeni iz bioloških organizmov\, se delijo\, samoorganizirajo\, adaptirajo in celijo poškodbe\, torej so živi. To omogoča nove načine manipulacije in biodetekcije v živih organizmih ter človek-stroj vmesnike doslej mogoče le v znanstveni fantastiki. Za dosego tega cilja je dr. Matjaž Humar skupaj s sodelavci kot prvi vstavil laser v živo človeško celice in pokazal njegovo uporabo za biosenzoriko in sledenje posameznih celic. Prvi laser znotraj celice in podobne nove tehnologije odpirajo povsem nov pogled v delovanje celic in organizmov. Odkritje je poželo ogromno zanimanja tako v stroki kot v medijih. V predavanju bo dr. Humar na poljudni način predstavil izsledke teh raziskav. Kot dvakratni dobitnik Marie Skłodowska-Curie štipendije\, ERC Starting Grant\, ter številnih drugih tujih in domačih projektov\, bo dr. Humar predstavil tudi svojo raziskovalno pot\, ki ga je vodila preko podoktorskega izobraževanju na Harvard Medical School in Massachusetts General Hospital\, do vzpostavitve svojega laboratorija na Institutu Jožef Stefan. \nO PREDAVATELJU \nDr. Matjaž Humar je vodja Laboratorija za bio-integrirano fotoniko na Institutu Jožef Stefan in docent na Fakulteti za matematiko in fiziko Univerze v Ljubljani. Po doktoratu iz fizike je opravljal podoktorsko izobraževanje na Wellman Center for Photomedicine: Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital. Je dobitnik več raziskovalnih štipendij\, med drugim tudi prestižne ERC Starting Grant za projekt z naslovom ‘’Celični laserji – povezovanje optičnih resonanc z biološkimi procesi’’. Nedavno je prejel tudi Blinčevo nagrado za fizike na začetku kariere. \n  \nASEF povezuje znanstvenike in akademike po celem svetu. \n

DESCRIPTION:The Slovenian Embassy cordially invites you to a lecture and performance by Boštjan Gombač. He will introduce you to the world’s oldest musical instrument\, a flute made by Neanderthals who inhabited his home country of Slovenia. Estimated to be 50\,000 – 60\,000 years old\, it is carved from the thighbone of a cave-dwelling bear. \nThe recital will take place at on Edinburgh Society of Musicians\, Recital Room\, 3 Belford Road\, Edinburgh EH4 3BL on October 28\, 2022\, at 7 p.m. RSVP by October 26\, 2022: rsvp.vlo@gov.si \nThe lecture will be followed by a drinks reception\, courtesy of the Slovenian Embassy. \nBoštjan Gombač will give a talk about the discovery of the flute in Slovenia’s Divje Babe cave and its evolutionary and cultural significance. He will explain its features and acoustics and play reconstruction of the original flute\, which originates from a time when there was only one human species on European soil – the Neanderthal. The discovery of the flute more than 20 years ago disproved outdated ideas that Neanderthals were primitive humans\, incapable of artistic\, spiritual and abstract expression. This ancient flute is probably the oldest evidence of musical creation in human history. \nMusic played on the bear bone flute can also be heard in the David Attenborough BBC documentary series “Prehistoric Planet”\, which also features Hans Zimmer\, Anže Rozman and Kara Talve. \nBoštjan Gombač is a renowned multi-instrumentalist\, live performer and composer of music for theatre\, film and television. His work of the last 20 years comprises of about 140 albums playing classical works from all over the world\, as well as original music for more than 50 theatre pieces and about 40 TV documentaries. In addition to the clarinet\, bass clarinet\, saxophone and other wind instruments such as tin whistles and ocarinas\, alghosazi and fujara\, Boštjan also plays the trumpet\, fluegelhorn\, musical saw and the theremin. He also produces a range of surprising and strange sounds from objects rarely seen in concert venues. As Boštjan Gombač puts it: “The sound itself is my guide and inspiration. The more unusual the sound\, the greater the challenge\, the more expressive the possibilities and the deeper the joy.” \nAs a member of the critically acclaimed Terra Folk group\, Boštjan Gombač won BBC Radio 3’s World Music Award and many other accolades. \nBoštjan Gombač is a current Artist in Residence in London\, a programme which aims to contribute to the international mobility and visibility of Slovene artists. \nThe programme is supported by the Cultural Fund run jointly by the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and aims at promoting Slovenian culture abroad.

DESCRIPTION:Ameriško-slovenska izobraževalna fundacija (ASEF) v sodelovanju s Študentsko organizacijo FMF organizira poljudnoznanstveno predavanje\, ki ga bo v torek\, 11. oktobra\, ob 19. uri izvedel Matej Neumann\, štipendist ASEF generacije 2022 in doktorski študent matematike na Univerzi Cornell v ZDA. Predavanje nosi naslov “Teorija grafov in njihova uporaba v praksi” in bo potekalo v prostorih Fakultete za matematiko in fiziko v Ljubljani (v stavbi matematike – v predavalnici 2.01\, ki se nahaja v drugem nadstropju na desno). \nPRIJAVA\nZa ogled predavanja se je treba prijaviti do 11. oktobra najkasneje do 18. ure TUKAJ. \nO PREDAVANJU\nNa začetku predavanja bomo povedali\, kaj grafi sploh so\, in pokazali primere njihove uporabe v praksi. Nato si bomo podrobneje pogledali problem enakokotnih premic in pokazali\, kako ga lahko rešimo s pomočjo teorije grafov. Predavanje bomo zaključili s predstavitvijo najpomembnejših algoritmov na grafih\, ki jih vsi uporabljamo vsak dan. \nO PREDAVATELJU\nMatej Neumann trenutno zaključuje magistrski študij matematike na FMF\, kjer je leta 2020 tudi diplomiral\, in obiskuje doktorski študij matematike na Univerzi Cornell v ZDA. Že od nekdaj ga je zanimala matematika in njegove sanje so vedno bile postati raziskovalec in profesor na univerzi. Med študijem je tudi sodeloval z IJS\, kjer je lahko letos tudi predstavil moje delo na SiKDD konferenci. Trenutno dela na problemu n-linearne Hilbertova transformacije. V prvi polovici leta 2022 je tudi obiskal prof. dr. Bojana Moharja v Kanadi\, kjer je skupaj z njegovo ekipo delal na problemu iskanja večkratnosti lastnih vrednosti grafov. Matej v prostem času poleg matematike tudi rad igra športe in hodi v naravo. \n

SUMMARY:9th Conference of Slovenian Exporters
DESCRIPTION:The conference of Slovenian exporters is a one-day event with which we want to connect Slovenian exporters\, encourage them to network\, cooperate with each other and jointly search for and exploit opportunities. With the stories of successful exporters\, we want to prove that it is possible to do business successfully even in difficult times and to inspire business and the general public\, and by presenting good business practices\, contribute to the deepening of entrepreneurial skills in other companies and on the broader business community. \nThe Slovenian export economy is once again at a turning point. Where do energy and raw materials come from\, at what price and how to get them? After the pandemic\, the increased demand is welcome\, but the shocks on the supply side are exceptional\, also in services and logistics. Global political tensions and the war in Ukraine\, as well as sanctions against Russia\, have accelerated all this. Now we are not only talking about economic problems but also about hunger. An already unpredictable and challenging environment has become even more unpredictable and difficult\, because today not only all goods and labour are more expensive\, but also money is more expensive. \nHow to stand here and exist? Are the processes of the desired approach of production to customers on the one hand and of production to markets also opportunities for the Slovenian export economy? Are these two processes\, which are the result of all the aforementioned conundrums\, related or perhaps opposite? Where is China\, will it continue to fight with covid and thus further deepen the conundrums? And how will she turn politically? With all this\, how can you diversify sales and successfully procure? And to top it all: where are the people who would work? And how else to deal with the requirements of sustainable business? \nThis year’s 9th Conference of Slovenian exporters will occur on Friday\, September 16\, 2022\, between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. in the Brdo Congress Center\, Slovenia.
