The daughter of Slovenian immigrants, Suzie Zuzek, was decisive in the penetration of Lilly Pulitzer’s typically American fashion style.

When Lilly Pulitzer’s light, simply cut dresses shone on the US fashion scene, they became instantly recognizable with vibrant colours and prints with a wide arsenal of eclectic, fantasy motifs. First of all, because of the first lady Jackie Kennedy, is credited with spreading this style of clothing, which today is considered characteristically American and is present in central design museums. But few people in Slovenia know that the vast majority of these motifs are the fruit of the imagination of Suzie Zuzek (1920–2011), the daughter of Slovenian immigrants from Dolenjska.
