“There is no winter here, so outdoor weddings are organized all year round. We only have about 15 rainy days,” says the Romana, who was born and raised in Ljubljana and has been living in Mexico for a decade and a half.

Romana Lilič was brought to Mexico by love. After she met the architect Mariano Arias Diez at a birthday party in Ljubljana, when she was still working as a PR consultant at Pristop, she moved to the seaside resort of Cabo San Lucas in November 2007. “Before that, I didn’t think I would ever live abroad, I didn’t even know Mexico,” she recalls.
“I tried to find a job in Cabo from Slovenia, but it didn’t work. Most people come to Cabo for vacation or have a second home to spend the warm winters here. No one believes you if you send a job application by email. When I came to Mexico, I quickly got a job in marketing in a real estate company that builds settlements here. I was with them for five years, I also edited their travel magazine.”
Shortly after her arrival in Mexico, the financial crisis began in the United States, which, with a slight delay, also hit Mexico. Lilič remembers: “The Baja California Sur peninsula, where Cabo San Lucas is located, is kind of separated from mainland Mexico. Many Americans and Canadians come here because of the proximity to the USA, the climate, food and sports. The decline in demand and the outflow of capital from the USA hit us hard and I was only able to stay at work part-time. That’s partly why I started working for one of the luxury hotels here, in social media and photography. They recommended me to others, and that’s how I started to do more with photography, which is my passion since I was a child.”
“I like to photograph hotels, design and travel because I also like to travel and good design inspires me. I enjoy photographing weddings because they are representing beautiful, happy days. In addition, pictures are very important at a wedding for being the long-lasting memories.” Although her husband is a successful architect, he helps her with events on the weekends and so they can spend more time together.
