The leaders of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Ministry of Infrastructure discussed the most pressing issues plaguing the economy, both the high costs of energy products and the uncertainty regarding the reliability of future natural gas supply. They agreed on further cooperation in addressing common topics and agreed that it is necessary to create a set of measures that will also help the economy.
The President of the Slovenian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Tibor Šimonka, initially expressed his desire for close cooperation in the future. He pointed out that Slovenia is a strong industrial country, with a large part falling on energy-intensive companies. The economy is highly dependent on natural gas, 90% of which is Russian gas. He expressed his concern if the gas supply were to be interrupted and expressed his wish that the ministry, in its communication at the European level, draws attention to the specifics of Slovenia regarding this dependence.
Minister of Infrastructure, M.Sc. Bojan Kumer, agreed that Slovenia has never been in such a position as it is now. The economy is facing global challenges. “We are at a crossroads, the sins of the past are catching up with us when there was also a lack of strategic thinking… We cannot change the past, we can direct the present, but we must never forget where we want to go”, he was clear. He confirmed that the economy is the foundation and he will advocate for the establishment of exemplary cooperation.
