The government of the new Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese was sworn in in Canberra on June 1, 2022. Ten of the 22 ministerial positions are held by women, giving Australia the most gender-balanced government so far. One of the appointed Ministers is of Slovenian descent Ms Tanya Pliberšek. It is the first Labor government since 2013 to have 77 seats in the 151-member lower house of parliament and will not depend on the support of other parties. Albanese promised to give a voice to indigenous peoples in setting national policy and to create equal opportunities for women.

The Ministry of Industry and Science was headed by Ed Husic, the first Muslim in the Australian government and Linda Burney will head the Ministry of Aboriginal People. Tanya Pliberšek, who has Slovenian roots, took over the Ministry of the Environment and Water. Her parents came from Slovenia as part of a post-war immigration scheme.
