In the 6th edition of the “Slovenian Business Women Around the Globe” program, working in oil and gas during the energy transition was the main priority. We hosted Ms Eva Avbelj who is currently living and working in Stavanger, Norway. Although quite young, she has an extended international carrier so far.

Eva is a Reservoir and Chemical engineer for one of the largest independent oil and gas companies in Europe, where is responsible for simulating oil and gas reservoirs for reservoir management and control. She graduated from the University of Aberdeen in the UK, where she completed a master’s degree in reservoir engineering.

Eva emphasized digitizing projects and creating a better method to solve complex tasks while learning new technologies and tools when needed. She explained the major oil and gas options for navigating the energy transition. How oil and gas companies respond to current economic disconnects, and how they should choose where and how to compete in global transitions to a low-carbon future.

Eva also commented on the challenges of working as a woman in the oil and gas sector, where the workload of men predominated. Her story goes through the experiences of working connected with Libya during the war. She also mentione the “Greta Thunberg effect”, as she called the generation gap between the oldest and the youngest in relation to the oil industry, and what about Norway’s big future plan on how to attract young students to return to studies in this field.

In the second part of the presentation, Eva went deeper into the Duolingo app project and Slovenian language input, how this idea came about, how the process is going and when we expect to start using it. The presentation was ended with the planned projects and her biggest dream of having her own wine production and winery in Slovenia one day.
